Gros Morne Autumn

Tripod tours landscape photography tours canada all inclusive travel

I love the fall colours, and the day’s last light skimming the bog in Gros Morne National Park. Nothing makes me feel more connected to the island I grew up on than golden light washing over the landscape, as you hike back out across the bog towards civilization with a gentle salty breeze in your hair. There are so many beautiful things to discover on the bog. Animals like arctic hare, eastern Canadian moose, and woodland caribou wander and munch on aquatic plants. Orchids abound! If you look closely, you’ll find the provincial flower of Newfoundland and Labrador, the super cool carnivorous Pitcher Plant. It’s a wonderland for landscape photographers who love details!

It’s good to be home

I feel very fortunate to be travelling in Western Newfoundland at the moment. I’m half visiting friends and family, and half finalizing my locations for Tripod Tours 2019 expedition to Gros Morne National Park! It’s been a while since I’ve been home home, since my mom moved away in 2013. I’ve spent time in St. John’s, but that really isn’t the same. I never feel truly at home until I hit the west coast of Newfoundland. Bringing people home with me on the 2019 tour is going to be really special. I’m looking forward to it!

Happy BC Day!

Lovely early evening light at Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on beautiful Vancouver Island. I knew the moment my feet touched the ground on Vancouver Island that a part of my heart would always live there. I hope the someday my body will live there again too! It’s part of a vast and beautiful province, filled with unique, interesting, and friendly folks. It is a special place, not just special for landscape photography! Although, it certainly is paradise for landscapes. Happy BC Day to my second home!

Tofino Seagulls

When I’m travelling around Tofino, I always struggle to choose a location to explore. There are too many options! If you love landacape photography, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is a must. We often seek out wild coastlines and endless vistas, forgetting to look around the towns and villages we pass through. Some of the most interesting photographs can be found on the way to your landscape location! Don’t forget to notice the seagulls as you pass by.

Seagulls hanging around in Tofino. I love how the clouds and mist gather around the hills, so beautiful!

Independence Day

The southwest blew my mind! I just got a little taste of what this part of the world has to offer, and I can’t wait to get back to explore more! My road trip plans have expanded into a 2 month long full loop of Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and California. One of these days, I’ll have the time to take that road trip! So much landscape photography to be had. Just miles and miles of wide open spaces. Until my return, I’ll take this oppourtunity to say Happy Independence Day to all my fellow landscape photographers in America!

See Ya Later Ranch

A perfect day at See Ya Later Ranch Winery in Okanagan Falls, BC. There may be a lot of wineries in this part of the world, but they don’t all have this view! I spent day touring wineries with my mom and my aunt. We had so much fun! We learned all about grape cultivation, wandered through vineyards, and ate some delicious food. Paired with delicious wine, of course! See Ya Later makes some of the tastiest gew├╝rztraminer around. And the view isn’t too shabby for landscape photography either.

Surfer break time in beautiful Tofino!

I’m certainly not a skilled surfer. If I can stand up for 2 seconds without biting it, I consider that a big win! But it doesn’t matter how good you are, it’s always so much fun to play in the ocean. There are very few things that make me feel like a kid again, but surfing is one of those things. You forget all about time, until you hit the beach again, fatigue and stiffness from the cold water hits you like a freight train. It’s all forgotten after you peel off the wet suit, and sit next to the fire with a frosty beverage and some good friends.

Gros Morne Tree Skeleton

A tree skeleton along the trail to Western Brook Beach, Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada. You could accidentally pass right by this beach! Keep your eyes peeled though, it’s one of the most scenic in the whole park, a wonderful spot for landscape photography. As you leave the parking lot on the beach trail, you decend some stairs into the coastal black spruce forest. It’s so dark and humid, almost no daylight gets through the canopy. There’s a bed of dry reddish needles underfoot, with mysterious Indian Pipe growing in the darkness. Then you round the corner, and are back in the bright sunshine, on top of sand dunes with Western Brook flowing to your right. If you look left, you’ll find the skeleton tree! These trees have been bleached by the sun and reinforced by salt from the nearby north Atlantic ocean. They’re impressively strong, and eerily beautiful.

Pacific Rim Clouds

Broken clouds and crashing surf Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The coastline of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is beyone rugged. It can be dangerous out on these rocks, but if you’re careful and sure footed, there are rewards! The perspective you can find out here is wonderful. Both in landscape photography, and in life! I love the sky reflecting in a hidden tide pool as the morning sun sends the mist rolling back out to sea. It’s peaceful for the soul.

East Sooke Sunset

A gorgeous calm sunset with beautiful diffused light at East Sooke Regional Park just outside Victoria, BC. I brought my mom with me for this sunset, and it was a lovely one. We sat on the rocks and chatted while the light became more soft and diffused. I have come to appreciate this kind of sunset, which as a landscape photographer I find kinda boring. If you looks closely though, it’s anything but boring! The detail in the rocks and trees, paired with the soft slow shutter waves is really pleasing. You can even see my favourite tree, Arbutus, showing its lovely fire coloured bark.
